Celebrating over 25 years of proud service to the community.
Mission Statement:
“To promote justice through educational and charitable activities. The San Antonio Bar Foundation is committed to community-based efforts to minimize conflict and to implement and support pro bono and educational programs.”
Community:
The Foundation supports community programs that help the youth, the elderly, the poor and others who face special challenges in the pursuit of justice in our society. In particular, it supports the People’s Law School , the Amigos in Mediation (AIM) Program, the Wills Clinic, and other pro bono projects. The 16th ANNUAL PEOPLE’S LAW SCHOOL will be held at St. Mary’s University School of Law on February 20, 2010. This event is free and open to the public and offers free legal sessions on a variety of topics.
Fundraising:
In its 25th year, 2009-2010, the Foundation made charitable gifts to worthy programs and organizations, including the Community Justice Program, the San Antonio Bar Association’s award-winning pro bono program. In addition to a significant giving program, the Foundation also transferred $90,000 to the endowment fund for future giving. Through annual contributions to the endowment fund since 2000, and through prudent investment strategies managed by Frost Bank, the endowment fund is now over $7400,000. This significant benchmark takes the Foundation more than half way toward its goal of building the endowment for future giving to a minimum of one million dollars by 2011, while maintaining a high level of support for the community at the same time.
Passport to Peace
Throughout the year, the Foundation hosts several fundraising events, the largest of which is the annual Peacemaker Awards event. This year’s event, the PASSPORT TO PEACE, is on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, downtown. We hope you will join the San Antonio Bar Foundation on an adventure at the Passport to Peace and get ready for an interactive journey that will include a fun and inspiring tour of this year’s remarkable 2010 Peacemaker Award Honorees - Louise Locker/Elf Louise; former Mayor Phil Hardberger; the Center for the Intrepid; and Ogden Elementary School - and the lasting impact they have made on our community. For more information, please visit the PASSPORT TO PEACE web page. Don’t forget to purchase your PASSPORT TO PEACE RAFFLE TICKETS.
