2010 Passport to Peace

Saturday, February 27, 2010

The San Antonio Bar Foundation is pleased to announce San Antonio’s Peacemaker Award recipients for 2010!

The 2010 Peacemaker Award honoree is Louise Locker/“Elf Louise” for her consistently outstanding contributions to the lives of underprivileged families in San Antonio.  Her gifts of time,
energy and creativity have improved the quality of life for thousands of people and inspired philanthropy to organizations and individuals alike.

The 2010 Corporate Community Service Award honoree is The Center for the Intrepid for the Center’s nationally-recognized excellence in rehabilitating and improving the lives of
United States servicemen and women who have suffered serious injury while engaged in service to our country.

The 2010 Community Service Award honoree is former Mayor of San Antonio and Chief Justice to the Fourth Court of Appeals, the Honorable Phil Hardberger.  Few citizens of San Antonio have contributed more to the economic development and peaceful synergies of San Antonio’s political, nonprofit and corporate resources than Mr. Hardberger, who is now a shareholder with Cox Smith.

On Saturday, February 27, 2010 at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio at 7 p.m., the San Antonio Bar Foundation will host the Passport to Peace where attendees from all over San Antonio will take a journey to visit four destinations in the Grand Hyatt’s ballroom to learn more about these award winners and meet some of the children who benefit from the Amigos in Mediation program, which benefits from the Passport to Peace celebration.

Gourmet food booths and exotic drinks will make the journey even more fun.  After stopping at the four booths, enter your passport into the drawing for a grand trip to an exotic resort.  The Court Jesters will provide some great dance music to complete the trip.

The Bar Foundation’s mission includes reducing gang violence in public schools in Bexar County.  Amigos in Mediation (AIM) has become a collaborative effort between the Foundation and the
Bexar County Dispute Resolution Center.  AIM provides schools with a self-sustaining peer mediation program, which improves the conflict resolution skills of students and enables them to resolve their own disputes.  As of August 2009, 142 Bexar County schools have active peer mediation programs and 1,890 students have been trained as peer mediators.  These student peer mediators
have conducted 1,536 mediations and 98% of those mediations have resulted in agreements between the disputing students.

Your support as a Passport to Peace Sponsor is essential to ensure the continuation of community peacemaking programs such as AIM and the Foundation’s other charitable projects.
